Weather and Temperature

Sri Lanka can claim to be a year-round holiday destination. The dry season runs from November to March south-west, while the north and eastern coast regions are at their best from May to September. During both these periods, the temperature is about 30-35 degrees in the flat lands of the island, while on the hills, for instance in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya, the temperature can lower down to 15 degrees. Due to the humid heat, you might encounter several flies and insects, especially in the areas of National Parks and in the rainy season (also in Hotels).

Tipping

The amount of tipping depends of course on your appreciation of the service provided. It is customary to leave 10 -12 US$ per day to the driver and 12-15 US $ per day to the guide, preferably at the end of the trip.

Currency

All payments on sites (attractions, museums, restaurants etc.) must be done in local currency (LKR). Credit cards are usually accepted in big Hotels. Therefore, we suggest picking up a enough money from the ATM machine at the airport (or exchange) in order to avoid inconveniences due to lack of banks or exchange offices in some areas.

Duration of transfers

The transfer time are much longer than what you might be used to in your country. This due to the traffic, the conditions of some roads and the speed limit of 40km/hour in most roads. To avoid too long journeys, for the Guests and for the driver as well, we might need to stop for a night in areas, for instance in Nuwara-Eliya, where there are not many attractions to visit.

Clothing

While visiting any Temple in Sri Lanka you will be asked, as a sign of respect, to wear clothes that covers your décolleté and your shoulders as well as pants/skirts covering your knees. You will be allowed entering Temples only barefoot. If you should not feel comfortable with that, you are welcome to wear socks.

Vaccinations

For any information about vaccinations, please consult your family doctor.
